The Pittsburg State University Community Campaign began in 1985 with the incorporation of the PSU Foundation. This annual campaign brings business leaders from across Crawford County to join forces with PSU to raise funds to support scholarships, academic programs and other university needs, strengthening a longtime relationship between Pittsburg State and the community.
The Campaign Co-Chairs for the 2026 Community Campaign are Madison Marietta Miller & Mike Hanika.

Community Campaign Rex Crowley Award Recipient Southeast Kansas Education Service Center – Greenbush
The “Rex Crowley Outstanding Partners in Progress Award” recognizes a member of the Pittsburg community who has been an outstanding partner with the University. The recipient selected is to be a civic leader who has rendered outstanding service to both Pittsburg State and the local community through professional and volunteer activities. The award is named in honor of Rex Crowley, whose career as both a local banker and as a fund-raising volunteer for Pittsburg State University is well known in the community.
Rex W. Crowley was the kind of person who knew the importance of working together to make our community a better place.
In 1929, he joined the National Bank of Pittsburg (now Arvest Bank), rising from assistant cashier to chairman and CEO. He was very civic minded – active in Rotary, the Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce, the USD 250 school board, and boards at Mt. Carmel Medical Center (now Ascension Via Christi Hospital) and the Mental Health Associations.
After nearly 50 years of service at the bank, he retired in 1978 and took a no-salary position at Pittsburg State University as director of development. At that time, the concept of private support of our university had barely begun. Rex expected large returns and worked to make them happen.
He also understood that Pittsburg State played a vital role in the well-being of the local area, region and state, and that private support was becoming increasingly more important in order to continue our standard of excellence in education.
