Rover 1 Project

Double the power – share this project with others

Six PSU engineering technology students are taking on the challenge of creating a vehicle designed to traverse the simulated surface of another world for the NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge. The team will design, build and test technologies that enable rovers to perform in a wide variety of environments. The challenge will mimic the opportunities, challenges, and decision-making that our future planetary explorers will face in interplanetary space.

The planned course for the competition will require two students, one female and one male, to traverse a terrain of 0.50 miles that includes a simulated field of asteroid debris, stream bed, erosion ruts and crevasses of various sizes. The weight and time requirements encourage compactness, light weight, and efficiency. Points are earned by assembly, design, and successful completion of course obstacles as well as task completion and pre and post challenge meeting requirements. The challenge looks to the next generation’s skills of scientists, technology, engineering and mathematics to aid in the design process by providing innovative designs and unique perspectives.

None of this would be possible without the financial support of alumni and friends of PSU. This year, we ask you to consider a financial gift to the PSU Rover Team 1. Simply click the “Give Now” button to process your gift!

We sincerely thank you.
